(November 4, 1921 - January 12, 2010)

THOMPSON - Lorraine M. Sill, age 88, formerly of Thompson, residing in Ottumwa, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Lorraine M. Sill was born on November 4, 1921 in Pomeroy, Iowa, the daughter of William and Gertie (Kleen) Becker. She was baptized on December 4, 1921 and confirmed in her faith on April 26, 1936. She received her education in Pomeroy and graduated from high school there. She continued her education at the Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating on September 13, 1945 as a Registered Nurse.

She was united in marriage to Orville K. Sill on May 14, 1950. The couple made their home in Thompson. Lorraine worked at the Buffalo Center Clinic for 25 years and at the Forest City Hospital for 5 years as head nurse.

At the age of 62 years, Lorraine retired and she and Orville moved to the Des Moines area, spending winters in Arizona. She continued her nursing care there, taking blood pressures for other residents in their trailer park. She liked sports and enjoyed cheering on her children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors.

Lorraine was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson and served as Ladies Aid President. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cross-stitch, crocheting, knitting, sewing and all kinds of crafts. She liked playing bingo and always enjoyed a good game of cards with friends and family.

Lorraine made her home most recently at Sylvan Woods in Ottumwa where she made new friends and enjoyed the staff. During her finals months, she was most thankful for the loving care she received at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Ottumwa.

Lorraine is survived by three children: Terry (Sandra) Sill of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; Jane (Ervin) Burke of Ottumwa, Iowa; Mark (Lisa) Sill of Ramsey, Minnesota and eleven grandchildren; Erik, John, Anna, Kevin, Cassidy, Jill, Jenna, Jodi, Todd, Sarah, Hanah, and one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Orville, son Ken, three sisters and a brother.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thompson with Pastor Boyd Longshore officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, January 15th at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St Forest City and an hour prior to service at the church.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson.
