(September 8, 1936 - March 13, 2008)

FOREST CITY - Richard D. Peterson, age 71 of Forest City, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Richard D. Peterson was born in Forest City, Iowa on August 8, 1936, the son of Melvin and Myrtle (Olson) Peterson. He was baptized and confirmed at West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Leland. He received his elementary education in Leland and attended Forest City High School. He worked full time in the construction industry and later worked as a farm hand.

Richard married Janice Monson on Feb. 1, 1969 in Las Vegas, Nevada and the couple celebrated their 26th Anniversary before Janice passed away in 1995. He was married to Paula Bartlett in 1996. They eventually divorced.

Richard loved to go fishing and enjoyed taking trips out west deer hunting. Both Richard and Janice spent many winters in McAllen, TX before her death. For several years he owned and operated a bait shop in Arkansas. He loved kids and enjoyed teasing his nieces and nephews.

Richard is survived by his siblings, Marjorie (John) VerHoef of Forest City; Roger (LeAnn) Peterson of Lake Mills; and Sharon Holland of Forest City and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Janice, step-son John Monson, a brother Marvin (Bud) Peterson and a sister, DonnaLou Kester.

As per his wishes, his body has been cremated.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 17th at 1:00 PM at West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Leland with Pastor Timothy Miller officiating. Inurnment will be in the spring in West Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.
