LaVonne Colleen Adams
(February 4, 1931 - January 1, 2010)

LaVonne C. Adams, age 78, of Lake Mills, died Friday, January 01, 2010, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

LaVonne Colleen (Hanson) Adams was born on February 4, 1931, in New Richland, Minnesota, the daughter of Orville and Nellie (Hass) Hanson. LaVonne was the eldest of eleven children. She was baptized on April 5, 1931 at Blue Earth Church in Frost, Minnesota, and was later confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. LaVonne graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1949.

On July 9, 1949, LaVonne was united in marriage with Donald Adams in Albert Lea. The couple made their home on the farm east of Lake Mills where LaVonne kept busy raising a family and helping Don when she was needed. They moved into Lake Mills in 1975. LaVonne worked at Dunn’s Federated Store where she thrived on her relationships with the local customers.

LaVonne enjoyed many activities throughout her lifetime, including golfing, bowling, bridge club, gardening, canning, and traveling. She truly loved to quilt, especially doing hand-stitching, and had made cherished quilts for all of her grandchildren. LaVonne was a wonderful baker, creating delicious cakes, rolls, and Christmas cut-out sugar cookies for her grandchildren to decorate. She was a 4-H leader, played adult volleyball with the “BENGAY Gang”, and was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.

Since 1982, Don and LaVonne shared annual winter trips to McAllen, Texas. As LaVonne’s health began to fail, she began spending time in the Lake Mills Care Center. She loved being there, and was labeled the “social director” because of her ability to strike up conversation with the residents, and she made everyone feel at home.

Her memory is loved, and she will be missed by her husband, Don of Lake Mills; four children, Pat (David) Young of Joice, IA, Bruce Adams of Lake Mills, Mike (Regina) Adams of Lake Mills, and Donna (Jim) Kellogg of Mason City, IA; ten grandchildren, Bob Young, Kurt Young, Chris (Diana) Adams, Justin (Chris) Adams, Timothy (Katie) Adams, Rick Adams, Scott Adams, Jim Adams, Catherine Adams, and Elizabeth Kellogg; and nine great grandchildren, Kjerstin Adams, Chelsey Adams, Tori Adams, Cheyenne Adams, Paige Adams, Laurin Adams, Tysin Adams, Destiny Adams, and Austin Mahana. She is also survived by siblings, Daniel (Judy) Hanson, Mary (David) Adamson, Jim (Judy) Hanson, Sharon (Jan) Hanson, Jerry (Ann) Hanson, Nancy Poore, Paul (Mary) Hanson, Sandy Zwick, Sonny Woolson, and Pam (Paul) Jerdee; sisters- and brothers-in-law, James (Norma) Adams, and Blanche (Howard) Haried; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

LaVonne is preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; daughter-in-law, Mary Adams; and two brothers-in-law, Floyd Woolson and Leland Zwick.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Steve Smith officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 4, 2010, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
