(August 13, 1923 - December 31, 2009)FOREST CITY - Caroline Cordes, age 86, of Forest City, died Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Carolyn Bilyeu Cordes, the daughter of John and Bertha (Baack) Buns, was born August 13, 1923, in Woden, IA. She received her education in the Woden area and graduated in 1941 from Woden High School. After graduation she moved to Chicago where she worked for the railroad.
She returned to Woden after WW II where she met and married Julius Bilyeu on March 7, 1946. After their marriage they moved to Ames, IA and later Evanston, IL where she continued to work while Julius finished his Masters Degree. After his graduation they made their home in Illinois where she was a homemaker and secretary.
In 1974 the couple purchased the Paullina Lumber Yard and operated it together until their retirement in 1984. They enjoyed several years of traveling to Texas in the winter months and Caroline continued to do this until 2004.
In 2001 Caroline moved to Britt, IA to be closer to her dearly loved family. In 2004 she was blessed to marry Albert Cordes of Forest City, IA where she resided until her passing on December 31, 2009 at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City, reaching the age of 86 years, 4 months and 18 days.
She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Woden. Since 2003 she has attended Calvary Baptist Church. She and Albert loved to study the Bible together at home and at Calvary.
Caroline leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Albert of Forest City; a son, Robert Bilyeu of Lansing, KS; daughter Ginger and husband Lynnford Dau of Wahpeton, ND; two granddaughters, Leann and her husband Nicholas Roberts of Houlton, WI and Carrie Dau of Sioux Falls, SD and great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Madilynn who filled her heart with great joy.
Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Julius, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, January 4, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City with Pastor Douglas Farrell officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Petersen Lund Funeral Home 505 N Clark St Forest City and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.
Burial will be in the spring at Grant Township Cemetery in rural Woden, Iowa.
