Veteran Iowa Editor is Dead

Lake Mills (AP) - Martin A. Aasgaard, 67, publisher of the Lake Mills Graphic and a civic leader here, died at the home of his son Gordon after an illness of a year.

Mr. Aasgaard was born in Albert Lea, Minn., November 2, 1880. He had been associated with the Lake Mills Graphic for 50 years.

He was postmaster for 16 years. During World War II, Mr. Aasgaard was state chairman of the "Schools at War" division of the treasury's war bond drive. He was also an ex-mayor of Lake Mills. In 1935, Aasgaard was awarded the title of master editor by the Iowa Press association.

Under his direction, the Lake Mills Graphic came to be known as one of the finest weekly papers in Iowa and won many citations during the last 20 years.

Surviving are three sons, a daughter, two brothers and one sister.

Gordon Aasgaard, co-publisher of the Graphic, will continue as publisher. Funeral services will be at the Salem Lutheran church here, Monday at 2 p.m.
