[The Anderson Hotel Excitement.]
(January 3, 1896)

—The Anderson hotel was the scene of a lively explosion last Friday morning [3 Jan 1896]. The water and steam pipes connected with the large cooking range froze up Thursday night, and when a fire was started next morning the steam, unable to escape, accumulated in the water reservoir and finally exploded shattering the range and water pipes and tearing a hole through the side of the building. The range was almost a total wreck and the water pipes leading to the kitchen will all have to be replaced. Fortunately no one was near the range at the time of the explosion. The cook was in the room but received no injury. The loss to Hammond Bros will reach in the neighborhood of $300.
