P. O. KOTO
Dr. P. O. Koto was born in Rock county, Wis., Oct. 4, 1855. He worked on his father's farm and attended the district school until 11 years of age when he began clerking in a drug store in Brodhead. He found time while clerking to attend school at Janesville where he completed a commercial course in 1877. Mr. Koto came west in that year locating at Taopi, Minn., where he clerked for two years in a drug store, buying the business for himself at that time. In 1881 Mr. Koto moved to Forest City and established himself in the drug business and has been at the same location up to the present time. By careful business methods he has built up a large business which he richly merits.About ten years ago Mr. Koto took up the veterinary practice and in 1895 graduated with high honors at the Chicago Veterinary College. That he is high in his profession is proven by the fact that he has been Assistant State Veterinarian for several years, being appointed first by Gov. Drake and afterwards reappointed by Gov Shaw.
Mr. Koto has always been in the front ranks in promoting the interests and general welfare of Forest City and Winnebago county. He was the promoter and first secretary of the county fair association, giving much attention to the good of the organization, and held the office for several years. He was secretary at the time the Flax Palace was in it's glory, and its grand success was due to his untiring and ceaseless energy and work.
P. O. Koto is a man beyond reproach and no man can say a word against his character. His word is as good as his bond and he has the confidence and respect of all who know him. This is his first experience in politics and while he is starting pretty well up towards the top of the ladder, we predict he will come out of the scrimage with flying colors, and will be an honor and credit to the Worth-Winnebago Republicans and the district. Hurrah for P. O. Koto, our next representative.
