ELIZABETH THORSNESS

A Service of Victory in Christ for longtime Alaska resident Elizabeth "Betty" M. Thorsness, 68, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Central Lutheran Church, 15th Avenue and Cordova Street, with the Rev. Ronald Martinson officiating.

Mrs. Thorsness died Jan. 16 at Humana Hospital-Alaska as the result of a Dec. 27 heart attack.

Born Dec. 25, 1918, in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, she was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Fort Dodge in 1930. A registered nurse, trained at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, she had nursed in Minneapolis, Minn., and Seattle, Wash. She married Lowell J. Thorsness on Jan. 28, 1946 in Los Angeles, Calif., and moved to Seldovia where she worked as a nurse until 1951 when they moved to Anchorage. She was the university nurse at Alaska Methodist University during the early 1970s and was also a substitute nurse for the Anchorage School District. She was a member of the Pioneers of Alaska Anchorage Auxiliary No. 4 and Central Lutheran Church where she was active in the womens group.

She leaves her husband, Lowell J. Thorsness of Anchorage; her daughters, Marilyn Howe of Kent, Wash., Carol Greenup of Boise, Idaho, and Trudy Lund of Anchorage; her son, Jim Thorsness of Anchorage; and eight grandchildren.

Burial will be in Angelus Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Native Outreach Ministries, Anchorage, 99501, or to the Anchorage Rescue Mission, Anchorage, 99520. Arrangements by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
