Prominent Fort Dodge Civil War Veteran Dies at Age of 83
Fort Dodge, Ia., Oct 11 -
The dwindling ranks of Civil war veterans of Iowa today lost one of the foremost members in Joseph Pratt, 83, who died from the effects of a paralytic stroke suffered a few days ago.Pratt, who served two years in Company H, 151st regiment, of the Illinois Infantry during the Civil war, had been active in the Grand Army of the Republic during the more than 50 years he lived in Iowa.
His interest in the organization had won him election as vice commander and commander of the Iowa department. He served in the latter capacity last year. Earlier in life he was elected and several times re-elected commander of the Fort Dodge post.
