Mike was born Feb. 5, 1982, in Sioux City, to John and Janet (Hanson) Hackett. He was raised in Sioux City, where he attended Sioux City Catholic schools, graduating from Heelan High School in 2000. He went on to graduate from Western Iowa Tech Community College in 2002 and Morningside College in 2005. After graduation, he moved to Des Moines, where he was employed at the State of Iowa Department of Revenue -- State Auditor's Office.
He was a member of Professional Accountants. Mike was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City and also attended St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, Iowa, where his brother lives.
The memories of Mike are numerous and the accomplishments great. He had a great zest and love for life, from the music he enjoyed to the contagious smile he had that could change one's outlook on the day or situation at hand. He enjoyed traveling, to organize and plan vacations for himself and family members, volunteer at church and help his friends. He was mischievous in his Mike kind of way but was also a loving and giving son, brother, uncle and true friend. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes and was known to many as the number one Hawkeye fan. The lives he touched are definitely better because of him.
Survivors include his parents, John and Jan Hackett of Sioux City; brother, Matthew and Jamie Hackett of Waukee; sister, Sarah Hackett of Sioux City; sister, Ann and Ryan Baker of Sioux City; brother, Thomas Hackett of Sioux City; nieces and nephews, Anthony, Paige, Christopher, Jacob, Caleb, Noah, Julia, Haley and Leah; granduncle, Robert Byrne of Fort Dodge, Iowa; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
His grandparents preceded him in death.
