Death of John Vandevender

John Vandevender, who for over a half century has lived at his home two miles south of Brushy, died last evening. His demise was caused from the infirmities of old age and stomach trouble.

John Vandevender was born in Wayne county, Ohio, in 1833. In 1854 he came to Brushy, where he soon afterward homesteaded the place which was for so many years his home. He was married to Ellen Mayberry, who lived near Brushy in 1857. To this union three children were born, all of whom with the wife survive the father. They are James Vandevender of Duncombe, W. M. Vandevender of Brushy and Mrs. G. W. Best of this city.

The deceased was a soldier of the civil war, serving in the 32nd Iowa Infantry.

The funeral will be held tomorrow morning in Duncombe at the Methodist church, Rev. Collins officiating.
