“LAST RITES FOR MRS. M. HULBURD HELD AT OTHO”

“Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Hulburd, 85, pioneer resident of Webster county, were held at the G. Marshall young funeral home at 1:30 o’clock at the Otho Congregational church. The Rev. C. W. Hautzenrader, of the Central Church of Christ conducted the services during which Mrs. Edith Fortney and Mrs. Berdina Fawkes sang three duets, “Solid Rock,” “Sweet Hour of Prayer”, and “Scatter Seeds of Kindness.” They were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Merle Laird.

Floral tributes were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Findlay and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Woodbury. Burial was in the Otho Cemetery.

Relatives from out of the city who attended the funeral were Mrs. Thomas Lamb and son, Willard, of Willow Lake, S. D.

Obituary

Mary Wakeman was born in Lima, Ind., Nov. 1, 1952, and died Jan. 19, 1938, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Roy Loomer, in Fort Dodge. She leaves to mourn her loss eight children, 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Dean of Jonesboro, Ark., and Miss Edith Wakeman of Fort Dodge.

She was united in marriage in 1876 to Clinton Hart, who died in 1889. To this union were born seven children, Floyd, Willis and Mrs. Kittie Fawkes of Otho, Mrs. May Lamb of Willow Lake, S. D., Mrs. Maud Loomer and Mrs. Ruth Chase of Fort Dodge and Mrs. Marcia Phillips of Otho.

In the year 1893, she married Warren C. Poyer and to his union one daughter, Mrs. Dorris Fortney of Fort Dodge, was born. Following the death of Mr. Poyer she married Horace C. Hullburd, Oct. 31, 1919. Mr. Hulburd died in 1932.

Mrs. Hulburd came with her parents to Clayton county, Iowa, when a young girl, where she grew to womanhood and taught school. She later moved with her parents ot Otho township where she continued her school teaching. Mrs. Hulburd was a faithful church member, taking an active part in all divisions of the church and teaching in the Sunday school.”
