Delbert Rumme

Delbert Rumme, 71, of Nagoya, Japan, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999.

On Jan. 20 and 21, 1999, services were held at the Nagoya Lutheran Church, where his remains will be interred.

Delbert Charles Rumme was born June 16, 1927, in Fort Dodge. After graduating from high school, Del served in the United States Army from 1945-47, in San Francisco,

From 1947-61, he pursued a career in watchmaking, as well as graduating from Luther College in 1957, and then the Lutheran Seminary in St. Paul, Minn., in 1961.

Del began his mission work with the Lutheran Church in Japan when he and his family arrived in Tokyo in 1961. He served his Lord and the church until his retirement in 1992.

After his retirement, Del remained in Japan and was very active as a wedding chaplain and English teacher.

Survivors include his children, David Rumme of Obama, Japan, Christopher Rumme of Asheville, N.C., Martha and Jay Werth of Sacramento, Calif., Paul Rumme of Nagoya, Japan, Joel Rumme of Dayton Ohio, Philip and Mary Rumme of Dayton, Ohio, and Sarah Rumme of Nagoya, Japan; his grandchildren, Demetria and Florian Rumme, Matthew, Rebekah and Andrew Werth, and Emma and Elizabeth Rumme; his brother, Dennis Rumme; his sister, Earla Renuau-Rumme; and many friends.
