Monson, Charles (Carl) (1821-1902)

Announcing that Carl Monson, after having lived for 80 years 10 months and 21 days, silently passed away in Stratford, Iowa, on February 12, 1902. He had breakfast with his family, and then he went into the next room to, as he said, rest on the couch as he used to do. After a while a daughter in the next room heard some unusual breathing, looks inside, and calls for the others. He gasped for breath twice more and it was all over. He was born in Örgänge, Tiserum parish, Östergötland on March 21, 1821. Immigrated to America along with yours truly and others in 1849. First stayed in St. Louis, MO, arrived in Swedebend in 1853. Was converted and was one of the first when the Swedish Methodist congregation was organized in 1854 and a devoted member until his death. He was married to Charlotta Hägg on February 12, 1856. They where blessed with eight children, of whom three died at a tender age. The widow, five children and eighteen grand children miss and mourn the deceased, the great house father, and also many friends who were present at the funeral ceremony. Yours truly spoke in the American church. Text John 11:11 our friend sleeps. Br. Bergren and Rev. Holshier were present.

John Linn.
