Heart Attack Causes Death of Alva Arnett December 11, 1938

Alva Arnett, a resident of Fort Dodge for almost 60 years, died at the hospital in Harlan, Iowa at 12:35 p.m. Sunday from a heart attack. He was at the home of his daughter Mrs. R. C. Griffith in Harlan recuperating from a previous heart attack suffered six weeks ago when he was stricken with a second attack which caused his death.

Mr. Arnett was born in Livingston, Ill. He came with his parents to Fort Dodge at the age of 13 and at the time of his death he was still making his home at 1602 Fifth avenue south, which was his father’s home. Mr. Arnett retired from active business twenty years ago. For twelve years he devoted himself to caring for his invalid wife who died three years ago.

His marriage to Annie Jane Fisher occurred November 25, 1888. Three daughters and two sons survive. They are Mrs. Ray Gordon. (Catharene Mae) Sherman of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Ross. C. (Beryl Annie) Griffith of Harlan; Mrs. Charles. A. (Lyle Margaret) Pitsor of Fort Dodge; John W. Arnett of Perie, Neb.; and Alva T. Arnett of Rockford, Ill. A son Willis died in 1928. Two brothers, Charles of this city and Frank of Lincoln, Neb. also survive, as do 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at the Wilder funeral home. The body will be at the funeral home from Tuesday noon until the time of the funeral.
