Leo Gibson (Gib)Smith, 92, of Smithville, AR, formerly of Lehigh, passed away on 19 Mar 2005 at the Lawrence Hall Nursing Home in Walnut Ridge, AR. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, 25 March at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 6:00 pm Thursday, 24 March, at the Gunderson Funeral Home in Fort Dodge.
Gib was born 12 Nov 1912 on a farm near Border Plains in Washington Township, Webster County, IA. His parents were Lee Logan Smith and LuCeila Brogotti Smith. Gib attended the one room Border Plains School for elementary grades and Lehigh High School. On Sat, 27 Aug 1932, Gib married Ethel Pearl Hoover at the Methodist Parsonage in Duncombe, IA. Gib and Ethel farmed near Lehigh in Webster County, IA until their retirement in 1969. They spent nearly 30 years of their retirement in Lawrence County, AR where they made many dear friends. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ethel, one son, Karl, Paris, TN, four daughters, Geraldine Ackerman, Blairsburg, IA; Donna Brasfield, Thorndale, TX; Rosemary Thomas, Aiken, SC; and Sharon Martinez, Germany, one sister, Mrs. Esther Suska, Sobieski, MN; and one brother, Dr. Ranson (Pete) Smith of Green Valley, AZ; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren. Gib was preceeded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, Frank, Christy and Floyd Smith, and one son, Leo Gibson Smith, Jr.
