Anna Agnes Husske, daughter of John and Anna Vondracek Husske, was born February 10, 1863 in Prague, Bohemia and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Vincent Bishop, near Diagonal, Iowa on May 23, 1951 at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 10 days. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of nine months.

On January 8, 1883, she was united in marriage to Mathias Novak in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Twelve children were born to this union.

They lived for a time in Deer Creek Township, and in 1902, the family moved to Karlin, MO; and from there to the family farm north of Benton in 1915. In 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Novak retired from farming and moved to Diagonal.

Three daughters and two sons survive Mrs. Novak: Mrs. Margaret Hubbert of Bolivar, Mo., Mrs.Cecelia Bishop and Mrs. Mary Hammond of Diagonal, Cyril Novak of Mt. Ayr and Gus Novak of Clarinda.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mathias, in February 1931; by three sons: John, Frank and Andrew, and two daughters, Caroline Polodna and Lillian Markley. Two children died in infancy. Also surviving her are a brother, A. J. Hussske and a sister, Julia Lohr, both of Fort Dodge. She is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was baptised in the Catholic church in infancy and remained an active and faithful member for all her long life. Her whole life was one of service to her family and friends. Her unshakeable faith carried her through many bereavements and stayed with her to the end of a useful life. Until her last illness, she kept up the many friendships made through the years.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father M. J. Culhane in charge. Burial was in Maloy Cemetery.

Out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the funeral of Mrs. Mat Novak last Friday morning at St. John's Catholic Church here were: Mrs. Flemming and daughter of Orient; Mrs. Mary Howe, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Carroll, Mrs. Mary Novak, and Father Marian of Creston; Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Kassler and Pat of Afton; Mrs. Albena Rychnovsky and Agnes of Oseola; Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Kellner and family and Mr. Andrew Polodna of Boliver, Mo; Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Husske of Belle Plaine; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Husske, Mrs. A. J. Engholm and Mrs.. J. E. Otto of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Georgia Novak, Joseph and Thomas of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Gus Novak and Ivan of Clarinda; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Novak of Coin; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Novak of Shambaugh; Mr. and Mrs. James Markley, Arlene Markley, and Mrs. Mike Hannon and Paul of Mt. Ayr.
