"Old Settler Passes Away"

George Marsh,Sr. one of the oldest settlers of the county. He resided here 47 years.

George Marsh Sr. one of the early pioneers of Webster County; peacefully passed away at the home of his son James Marsh south of town, on Monday June 27, 1904. Aged 89 years 3 months 19 days. He was born in Canterbury, England, March 8, 1815.

George Marsh was a sailor in a British sailing company earlier in his life. He traveled to the West Indies and China. In 1841, he married Miss Charlotte Page in England. He and his wife came to America in 1846. They settled in Lake County near Waukegan, Illinois until August, 1857. They reared seven boys and six girls.

He helped his neighbors build the Church of Christ in Lehigh.. he became a member in 1867. He was elected Edler for life.

George Marsh's funeral will be held at James Marsh's home with the Rev. J. L. Fowler of Church of Christ officiating.
Burial will take place at Oak Grove (Beem) Cemetery, south of Lehigh.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte in Feb. 1898 at old Marsh homestead.

He is survived by 9 children, 44 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Frannie Bloomfield of Thayer, Kansas; George W. Marsh of Lehigh, Iowa; John Marsh of Keyetesville, Missouri; James Marsh of Lehigh, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie
Baker of Cromwell, Indiana; Mrs. Lydia Douglas of Lehigh, Iowa; Mrs. Emma Kitt, of Albion, Indiana;
William Marsh, of Fort Dodge, Iowa and Fred Marsh of Lehigh, Iowa.
