Obituaries
Francis M. Secrest was born in Wayne County, Iowa, December 28, 1866, and died in Seymour May 8, 1907. The most of his life was spent on the farm. Six years ago he went to Corydon and there followed the carpenters trade until he was taken sick in July 1905. He was of good habits, quiet, honest and honorable. July 9th, 1891, he was married to Mary E. Silvers. There are five children who with their mother mourn the loss of their dear father. Mr. Secrest was taken sick while at work on the high school building in Corydon. A year ago last October he went to Nebraska for his health and remained until March of this year. He had not made a profession of religion before his last sickness but was an interested attendant on divine worship. He was rational till the last and a few hours before his death asked the friends to pray and sing with him, and expressed himself as resigned to go, if it was God’s will. The funeral was conducted from the residence Sunday afternoon and the burial was in Southlawn.
