Melvin T. Sears

Melvin T. Sears, son of Charles and Estella (Martin) Sears, was born Sept. 30, 1904 in Clio, Iowa. He passed away on Nov. 23, 1994, at the Des Moines General Hospital at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 23 days.

Melvin was united in marriage to Ethel Gay on Oct. 15, 1933, and to this union two children were born.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Donnie; brothers Neal and Leon; and a sister, Mabel McDougal.

Melvin is survived by his wife Ethel of Corydon; a daughter, Cleva of Des Moines; a sister, Beulah Warren of Webster City; a sister Rosy Overton of Grand Rapids, SD; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

Melvin was a farmer until he retired in 1971 and was a member of the Corydon United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 26, 1994 at 10:30 a.m. from the Corydon United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Grandon officiating. The hymns "The Old Rugged Cross" and "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" were sung by Georgia Runyon, accompanied by Marjean Poston, organist. Pallbearers were Miles Van Fleet, Charles Vandel, Ed Horton, Richard Sears, Vurl Williamson, Matt Clayton, Richard Pyner and Russ Danielson. Interment was in the Corydon Cemetery. A memorial was established and will be designated later. Randolph Funeral Home, Corydon, was in charge of arrangements.
