Obituary

Harry Smith, son of Alf Smith, of Clay township, Wayne Co., Iowa, died May 8, 1895.

Harry would have been 7 years old, 10th of October, next. Alf Smith and wife tender heart-felt thanks to friends in general for kindly assistance in the sickness and burying of their loved one.

He was buried in the Kirby cemetery.

So, one by one, the loved ones go;
Death knows no age nor place.
Just when we think that they will grow,
Past footsteps, only we can trace.

Harry, your footsteps have been many,
Your words have cheered us much
When grandpa brought to you some candy,
Your face looked bright and flush.

You brought to ma some stove-wood,
You helped pa feed the pigs,
And then you smiled just as you should,
Though tired on your legs.

When night would come you'd fall to sleep,
But in the morning, wake,
And then your prattle was so sweet,
We'd from you, kisses take.

You're sleeping now the sleep of death,
But yet the morn will come,
When we shall see you newly dressed,
In our eternal home. J. M. Nelson.
