JAMES LEANDER BLANCHARD

Was born in Van Buren County, Iowa, April 20, 1858; died January 31 1920, at Byron, Oklahoma, after being confined to his bed by only two days.

MRS. NELLIE HELT BLANCHARD

wife of James Leander Blanchard, was born in Wayne County, Iowa, November 12, 1871; died at Byron, Okla., February 4, 1920, having been confined to her bed by only four days illness. They were married April 25, 1894, and had one daughter, Amy, who survives them. He also had three children by a former wife, who was also a sister of the late Mrs. Blanchard; of these two are living, Miles A. of Amorita, Okla., and Mrs. Mabel V. Gaume of Salina, Kansas.

Just prior to their death Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard were each teachers in the Sunday School at Byron where they had helped to organize the Christian church and were among the most faithful of its members. Their lives are said to have been of sacrifice and service to their family as well as to their church. Their service in the Sunday School extended eighteen years.

Mrs. Blanchard's parents preceded her in death but she is survived by one brother, B. A. Helt of Humeston; and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas Guine of Humeston and Mrs. S. L. Jordan of Leon.

The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard were brought here Saturday and were buried at the Lewisburg cemetery on Sunday, February 8, with funeral services conducted at the cemetery of Rev. J. D. Pontius of the Christian church at Humeston.
