Charles Helin, 83, passed away January 30, 2013. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 1, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius Catholic Church, 3663 - 66th Street, Urbandale. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines.

Charles was a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque and received his Master's degree from Drake University. He was Superintendent of the Mormon Trail Community School District in Humeston, Iowa for 30 years. Chuck was a proud veteran of the Korean War.

Charles is survived by his son, Brent (Jeanne) Helin; grandchildren, Joshua (Andrea) Clapp and Andrea (Brady) Goreth; great-grandchildren, Seth and Alex; sisters-in-law, Marsha (Ric) Rodemyer, Norma Hannam, and Marge Hannam; and many nieces, nephews and other family members.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Helin; and parents, Charles B. and Mary G. Helin.
