Carter D. Hatch, 88, passed away on January 28, 2013, at home. Carter was born on December 19, 1924, in Omaha, Nebraska, to George and Emily Hatch. Following graduation from Des Moines Roosevelt High School in 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Carter attended Drake University, meeting his future wife during college.

In October 1947 Carter married Karolyn Gibbs in Corydon, Iowa. They moved to their current home in Urbandale in 1949. His careers included time in auto body repair and as an insurance adjuster. During his life he was a Boy Scout leader, including Scoutmaster of Urbandale Troop 206 in the 1960s.

His involvement in the community included membership in the Urbandale Evening Lions Club. He enjoyed restoring old Ford autos, and he and Karolyn were active in the Central Iowa Model A Ford Club. He particularly enjoyed reading, traveling, and time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by Karolyn, his wife of 65 years, sons Greg (Janice) Hatch and Dean (Jan) Hatch, both living in Urbandale, four grandchildren, Jamie Hatch (Stacie), Jeannie Hatch, Emily Wells (Justin), Addie Hatch and four great-children, Taylor, Ashlyn, and Kyler Hatch, and Carter Wells. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Miriam Jean Chambers.

At Carter's request his body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
