Obituary -

(The Humeston New Era Humeston, Iowa April 13, 1910)

DANIEL MORGAN DEAD ... Pioneer Farmer Passed Away at His Home Near Cambria last Wednesday of Apoplexy ... Daniel W. Morgan, aged 59 years, a pioneer resident of Wayne County, died at his home near Cambria last Wednesday about noon of apoplexy. He and his son Les had been to Cambria in the forenoon and on returning home about 12:00 o'clock, were out near the barn during some work, when he was suddenly stricken with apoplexy. He died suddenly without speaking a word or uttering a sound.

Mr. Morgan's death was a great shock not only to his family but to the entire community. He had long been a resident of Washington Township and was well and favorably known.

Mr. Morgan was born in Madison County, Ind., March 1, 1851. He is survived by a wife and two sons, Lee and John.

The funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Cox of Cambria. The remains were then taken to their last resting place in the Cambria Cemetery, followed by a long concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives.

BIOGRAPHY BY AN OLD FRIEND ... Mr. Morgan was born in Madison County, Ind., March 1, 1851. When quite young he with his father's family moved to Fulton County, Ill., where they remained about four years.

In the spring of 1870 they moved to Wayne County, Iowa and settled in Washington Township where they have since resided. He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Clapp, Feb. 9, 1875. To this union was born two sons, Lee and John, who with the almost heartbroken wife are left to mourn the loss of a kind, loving and indulgent husband and father. The sympathy of this entire community goes out to the afflicted family in this, their sudden bereavement and sorrow.

The writer of this article has been intimately acquainted and associated with my departed friend for forty years and thinks perhaps he knows as much of his life, his character, his hopes and belief as any one. He was a genial, wholesouled, moral and upright citizen, never known to do a dishonorable or mean act, and was regarded by all as an honorable, honest man, a credit to himself and family, and the community in which he lived. Although not a member of any church organization he was charitably inclined to all who differed with him in religious belief and gave everyone credit for honesty in their opinions, and it was always a pleasure for him to arrange matters so his wife could attend church and Sunday School. He believed in the right living and right doing, and the practical application of the golden rule in all his relations with his fellow man. In all our talks on religious subjects he always affirmed his unshaken faith in god, the immortality of the soul an da future state of happiness for all those who did right as "God gave them to see the right," which I believe my friend Morgan endeavored to do at all times. "Peace to his ashes." Lewis Kellogg.

The family through the New Era desire to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to all who son kindly assisted and sympathized with them in their great sorrow, and for the beautiful flowers.
