David William Bauer, 87, of Washington, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, following a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday, May 15, at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery Visitation begins at 9 am. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday evening. Memorials may be directed to the Senior Dining Program at the Washington Community Y.

Mr. Bauer was born Dec. 21, 1914, in West Chester, to Fredrick and Serilda Ethel (Hopkinson) Bauer. He married Grace L. Thompson, Sept. 4, 1937, in West Chester. She preceded him in death in 1992.

Mr. Bauer lived most of his life in Washington County. He graduated from West Chester High School in 1933. He and his wife were stewards at Washington County Home from 1963 to 1977. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of West Chester.

Mr. Bauer is survived by one son, William Bauer and wife Beverly of North Oaks, Minn., two daughters, Elizabeth “Beth” Morris and husband William of Wausau, Wis., and Julia Bauer of Oregon, Wis., six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Theodore Bauer of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three brothers, Fredrick, Walter, and Lloyd Bauer; and three sisters, Lois Johnson, Ruth Yohe, and Barbara Grant.
