Betty Jean Chatfield, 94, of Columbus Junction, died Tuesday, May 30, 2017, in Bickford Cottage, Muscatine. Mrs. Chatfield was born May 10, 1923, in Letts, the daughter of Gale and Mildred (Hahn) Smith. She married Vernon L Chatfield in August 1941 in Missouri. Surviving are three children, Leonard Chatfield and wife Carol of Columbus Junction, Janet Martz and husband Larry of Muscatine, and Imogene Weiland and husband Dale of Oseola; 10 grandchildren; nine great-children; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Raymond G. Smith and wife Betty Lou of Columbus Junction and Lyle Smith and wife Audrey of Columbus Junction. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandchild; and one sister, Verlee Pierce Wells.
