Saturday, Aug. 1

Omar J. Rhodes died Saturday, August 1, 1970 at his home east of Kalona at the age of 64 years, 4 months, and 5 days. He had been ill several months.
Mr. Rhodes was born at Kalona on March 26, 1906, the son of Chris and Eliza Gingerich Rhodes. He married Edna Yoder August 12, 1934. He taught in public schools 44 years including the last 10 years in the Mid-Prairie Junior High School at Kalona. He was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and of the Iowa City and Mt. Pleasant antique car clubs.
Surviving are his widow; three sons, Warren of Wheaton, Ill., Dr. Ross Rhodes of Milwaukee, Wis., and David of Kalona; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Jeanette) Mellinger of Seville, Okla.; six grandchildren; four brothers, Frank, John and Eldon of Kalona and Emery of Iowa City; and three sisters, Mrs. Fred Frey, Mrs. Amos Hostetler and Mrs. Walter Marner, all of Kalona.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock, Tuesday, August 4 at the Kalona Mennonite Church with the Rev. Carl Smeltzer officiating. Interment was made in the Sharon Hill Cemetery. The Peterseim Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions are being accepted for the Kalona Mennonite Church organ fund and the Mid-Prairie Junior High School fund.
