Lyle E. Fry died Sunday afternoon, March 10, 1968 at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 65 years, 1 month, and 13 days. He had been ill since November.
The son of Richard and Edith Marsh Fry, Lyle was born January 27, 1903 in Kalona. He was a graduate of the Kalona High School and the University of Iowa. On April 30, 1937 he was married to Helen Snodgrass. He was a lifetime resident of Kalona.
Fry served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star for action in Germany and had attained the rank of technical sergeant.
He was a member of the United Christian and Baptist church, Amvets Post 107; English River Post of the American Legion and a member of the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years. He was employed by the Town of Kalona for many years and at the time of his death was water commissioner.
Surviving are his widow, one son, Richard, a student at the University of Northern Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Lela Shaver, Orizaba Fry and June Fry, all of Kalona; one brother, Gail Fry of Buckeye, Ariz. One son preceded Mr. Fry in death.
Funeral services were held at the United Christian and Baptist church at 1:30 o'clock, Tuesday, March 12 with the Rev. Herman Rice officiating. Interment was made in the Sharon Hill Cemetery with the Peterseim Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
A memorial fund for the United Christian and Baptist church and also the cancer fund has been established in memory of Mr. Fry.
