MELVIN EUGENE POOL

Melvin Eugene Pool, formerly of Crawfordsville, Iowa and Humeston, Iowa, died June 12, 2013 died at his home in "The Springs," Yalaha, Florida.

Melvin was born November 29, 1922 in the west end of Humeston, Iowa in an area known as Buttermilk Flats, to Albert Alphus and Rosie May Kalkus Pool.

He married Doris Marie Montgomery on May 3, 1946, in Oswego, Kansas. They were happily married for 64 years.

They were the parents of 2 sons, Marvin Pool and wife Linda of Yalaha, Florida and Randy Pool and wife Janell of Wake Forest, NC. Besides his 2 sons, he is survived by brothers Raymond Pool and wife Patricia of Garner, Iowa; Carroll Dean Pool and wife Ann of Greenbriar, Arkansas; sister Wanda Bessing of Des Moines, Iowa; brother-in-law John Montgomery and wife Evelyn of Lombard, Illinois; sister-in-law Norma Dodson of Evansville, Indiana; sister-in-law Darlene Montgomery of Corydon, Iowa; and sister-in-law Esther Mae Gotberg of Red Oak, Iowa. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Rosie; his beloved wife Doris; brother Calvin Pool of Humeston, Iowa, and sister Irene Rockhold of Lineville, Iowa.

Melvin was a World War II veteran hiving served in the European Theater of Operations as a medic and ambulance driver. He was a truck driver around Humeston, Iowa for most of his working years and retired in 1984 from Irving F. Jensen Construction. He and wife Doris moved to Crawfordsville, Iowa in 1990 and lived there until 2010, when his wife died. He spent the last 2-1/2 years living in Yalaha, Florida with son Marvin and wife Linda.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 2013, in the Humeston Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Lake County Fire Rescue, 315 W. Main Street, Suite #411, Tavares, Florida 32778.
