Clarence Valentine Fritz, 97, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, at Washington Care Center.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, with the Rev. Dennis Martin officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain.
Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Family visitation will be held from 7-8:30 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church.
Mr. Fritz was born Sept. 29, 1905, in Kinross, the son of Peter and Anna Redlinger Fritz. He married Elsie May Tinnes Jan. 30, 1940, in East Pleasant Plain. She died in 1989.
At the age of 2, he moved with his family to a farm south of Brighton. He attended Burr Oak Country School. After his marriage, he settled on a farm near his parents'. He farmed until 1969 when he and his wife moved to Washington. Following the move, he worked par time for Pioneer Seed Company and later provided lawn mowing service in his neighborhood.
Survivors include one son, Junior Fritz and wife Darlene of Ankeny; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and two sisters, Genevieve Drish of Fairfield and Bertille Shelangoski of Brighton.
In addition to his wife, he was proceeded in death by his parents; and one brother, Maynard Fritz.
