GEORGE TOOMAN TAKEN BY DEATH

FORMER PROPRIETOR OF HARNESS STORE SUCCUMBS TO STROKE

George Martin Tooman, 76 years of age, died at three o’clock Mon. morning at his home, 218 West Third street. He had been in failing health since Jaunary, 1931, and three years ago yesterday suffered a stroke from which he did not recover. His condition had been worse since last Friday.
Funeral services will be held at three o’clock Wednesday afternoon at Sherman’s funeral home, in charge of Dr. B. F. Schwaita followed by burial in the Eureka cemetery, south of Washington.
Mr. Tooman was born March 17, 1860, near Moscow, Iowa, a son of Martin and Dianna (Seits) Tooman. Hi parents died when he was young and he was reared in the home of relatives. His home was near Moscow during his earlier years, until he went to West Liberty.
From there he came to Washington in 1906. He was a harness maker by trade and for a number of years operated a harness store in Washington, which he sold in 1927. Later he operated a shop in his residence until three years ago, when he was compelled to give it up because of illness.
Mr. Tooman was married in October, 1882, to Mary Black, who died in 1905. He was again married August 8, 1917, to Clara M. Potratz, and is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Clara M. Potratz, and is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Carrie Fryaut of Iowa City and one grand child and three great grand children. One daughter died two years ago and a child died in infancy.
