Wayne Earl Wagner, age 90, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 16, at his home in Washington surrounded by his family.

Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Washington with Pastor Daryl Carr and Rev. Gary Wagner officiating. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Interment with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post 29 will take place at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa. Memorials have been established for Lending Hands of Washington, Hospice of Washington County, Central Park Community Center, Rainbow Acres in Camp Verde, Arizona or the First Baptist Church of Washington. Wayne was born October 30, 1921 on the family farm south of Washington the son of Howard and Dora (Davison) Wagner. He attended Eureka Country School and graduated from Washington High School in 1940. Wayne served honorably in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He was united in marriage to Beulah Lowry on August 12, 1944.

After retiring from farming, he worked for Farmers Cashway Lumbar Company and later drove Mini-Bus in Washington County. He was an often requested driver. Upon full retirement, he devoted more time to his family and friends and perfected his baking skills. He volunteered at Lending Hands and attended Manuevers sessions at the Central Park Community Center. At both places, he shared his homemade banana bread which was eagerly anticipated.

Wayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Washington where he often sang solos. He was also a much requested soloist for both weddings and funerals in the Washington area.

Left to honor and cherish his memories are his four children; Gary Wagner and wife Jusara of Cottonwood, Arizona; William Wagner and wife Nancy of Morning Sun, Iowa; Carl Wagner and wife Sandy of Leland, Iowa; Annette Wagner of Waterloo, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, and sister-in-law, Thelma Wagner of Washington, Iowa, as well as many nieces and nephews and the many friends he established throughout his long life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beulah, two grandsons, Adam and Matthew Wagner, and siblings; Evaline Swailes, Floyd Wagner, Leona Gardner, Ethel Armstrong and John Wagner.
