Opal Letitia Richards Maahs, 86, of Washington, died Friday, Dec 20, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Mrs. Maahs was born Nov 11, 1916, in Washington, to Grover Cleveland and Alice May (Baker) Hesseltine. She married Willis F. "Woody" Richards, Aug 10, 1935, in Kahoka, MO.. He preceded her in death in 1973. She later married Alva Maahs, Nov 22, 1976, in Salem, OR.. He preceded her in death in 1990. Mrs. Maahs is survived by one daughter, Janet Shelman and husband George, of Washington; three sons, James L. Richards and wife Cherryl of Washington, Joseph Richards and wife Linda of Washington, and John Richards and wife Sue of Brighton; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. She was prceded in death by her parents; her husbands; three brothers, Rolla, Floyd, and Glen Hesseltine; and two sisters, Hazel Hahn and Naomi Custer.
