Mumford Family, Newbern Cemetery

In the fall of 2004 I went to the Newbern Cemetery, White Breast, Warren, Iowa to find family tombstones for the Mumford family. My line is from John EVANS Mumford b. 1774 in Maryland and Nancy Weldon b. 1970 in Maryland. They had three children: James, Jesse and Josiah Showell. This family began in Worcester County, Maryland and ended up in the Clarke/Warren County areas. There were two James Mumfords from Worcester County, Maryland at that time and their parentage is unclear. I found a tombstone in Newbern that states: James M. Mumford Sr. died 10 Feb 1883 aged 77 yrs, 8 mos, 28 days. I was hoping to locate information on who his parents are to clear things up. I don't know if there were obituaries then or death records? Please let me know where to look.
