Hi Linda,

The Iowa State Fair grounds is curently on the East side of Des Moines on University St. The State Fair was last weekend. I missed it as my schedule dictated otherwise.

It is my understanding, that the North Lincoln School is now on the state fairgrounds, in Des Moines. My GGrandfather, Stephen Thorn, had a one room school house, on his property. It makes sense to me that it would be named "Thorn School". I've spoken to folks that have went to "Thorn School" Reunions. I know of two reunions, one in 1994 & one in 2000. Stephen had a daughter in law that taught there, some of his grandchildren went to school there. I, of coarse can not find much info about the school. I have heard that the name was changed from "Thorn School" to "North Lincoln School". This could turn into a real adventure.

Depending on where your grandmother lived, I am guessing in Southern Warren Co. It could be a thirty mile trip. By horse & wagon in 1910. That would be a good full day or better trip. Now days it is under an hour.
