Memorial services for Becky Sue Laverty, 58, who died at her home in Branson, MO, will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola, IA. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Becky, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Upton) Laverty, was raised in Iowa on a working farm. Her dad instilled in her a need to preserve the past, education for the future, and the importance of family.
She was a 1971 graduate of Indianola High School and attended Iowa State and Cottey College with studies in horticulture and Interior Design, with emphasis in housing and color. She moved to Kimberling City where she owned a floral shop. Upon moving to Branson she lived in a historical home in downtown Branson and worked for two other floral businesses just to name a few of her retail work experiences. She was the president of the PEO Chapter IB in Branson, served on the Arts Council board and many other organizations.
Her love of travel took her to all parts of the world. She traveled to her beloved Ireland, took trips to see friends in Uruguay, and made constant trips to Iowa, Illinois and South Carolina to spend time with family and friends. To preserve family traditions she designed cook books with pictures, recipes and anecdotes preserving generations of family history. She also spent time designing gardens in her yard, reading, following her faith in God, and creating recipes. Spending time at the lake and sailing her boat, spending time in the community helping when asked, and having gatherings were also important. She always had time when asked.
Becky is survived by a brother, David; nephew, Austin; niece, Amanda; aunts, Helen (Everett) Toft, Velma Upton, and Lucy Cerney. She was preceded in death by her parents and uncle Frank Upton. Memorials may be given in Becky's name to the Branson Arts Council. Online condolences may be made at www.overtonfunerals.com.
