John W. Vickroy
(August 29, 1883 – February 29, 1956)Obituary
John W. Vickroy, son of John W. and Margaret L. Vickroy, was born at Newbern, Aug. 29, 1883, and died in Salina, Kan., Feb. 29, 1956, at the age of 72 years, 6 months. He was united in marriage April 1, 1905 to Ruth Agnes Beedle of Chariton, who preceded him in death at their home in Lacona Thanksgiving day 1951. To this union were born 6 sons and 7 daughters. Those living are: Carl, Stuart, and Dewey of Salina, Kan.; Bob of Moline, Sgt. Marvin K. Vickroy stationed in Alaska; Sgt. John W. Vickroy of Washington, D. C.; Mrs. Alice Selby of Little Rock, Ark.; Mrs. Verna Hamilton and Mrs. Doris Walker of Salina, Kan.; Mrs. Darlene Haltom of Lacona.
Three daughters preceded him in death: Lena, Velma, and Carol Lee. Mr. Vickroy had 30 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The early part of his life was spent in Iowa. In 1910 he moved his family to southwestern Nebraska. In 1922 he moved his family back to Iowa where he spent his remaining years. He had been in poor health the past 2 years. Services were conducted March 3, 1956, at the Mosher Funeral Home in Lacona by the Rev. Hazel Morton. Source - Record Herald & Indianola Tribune, Indianola, Iowa, Thurs., April 5, 1956, p.11
