Clarke William Weeks
(July 28, 1943 - October 6, 2022)

Services for Clarke “Bill” Weeks, 79, who passed away Thursday, October 6, 2022, in Des Moines, IA, will be held at 7 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2022, at the Indianola First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held prior to services from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday at the church. Private family burial will be in the Chariton Cemetery, Chariton.
Bill was born and raised on the family farm outside of New Virginia learning the value of hard work and family, he attended the schools in New Virginia with his many siblings. For many years he and his brothers and brother-in-law dedicatedly and successfully played fastpitch softball in Indianola for the Gibs A&W team winning many games and tournaments. After school, he enlisted in the Army and served overseas, most notably Germany. Upon returning, he worked in the trucking industry for many years. After retirement he worked endless hours as a custodian for Irving Elementary School in Indianola, never minding another muddy footprint on a freshly mopped floor. After retiring again, he began mowing for Deer Run Golf Club, making certain each green and every step of the course was perfect, taking great pride in each pass, and was devastated when his health declined and he had to stop. Bill and his wife Sharon created the most perfectly manicured, landscaped lawn with the most amazing, brilliant flower beds throughout. 20 years ago, this week Bill married his true love Sharon and was blessed with two bonus daughters Deb and Kristie, and easily became the best bonus dad ever. From turning a blind eye to mischievous teenage behavior, being a best friend, attending weddings and births to welcome four bonus grandchildren. Bill and Sharon lovingly attended grandparents’ day, and lots of sporting events cheering them all on. In his free time while he was able Bill lovingly restored several antique tractors working endlessly to recreate the masterpieces, he knew they were. He could often be found driving these tractors around the neighborhood with grandkids on his lap, a smile from ear to ear. Bill’s other passion was car racing, Richard Petty his forever hero. He could often be found in the stands of the Warren County Fairgrounds watching his nephews race Figure Eight cars and every Saturday night in Boone, Iowa cheering on the 23 Modified of son in law JJ Scott. One of the most treasured highlights was being a part of the 2006 Modified Track Champion team. On occasion he may have enjoyed a Bud Light or two to celebrate and never let us forget he could still throw a mean right-handed hook when he needed to defend his family, (even after he had undergone open heart surgery the year before). He often reminded us how tough he was! When health decline forced him to stop watching in person, he treasured watching TV while granddaughter Shae’s husband, Ricky Thornton Jr races in the Lucas Oil Late Model Series, and he will be laid to rest in his favorite RTJ t-shirt. Aside from his wife, family and friends, nothing made him more happy than to see the black and white checkered flags waved. No man was more proud of his family, especially his grandchildren and most recently great- grandchildren, sometimes forgetting he was an adult and disciplinarian and taking great delight in letting them drive on his lap at an early age and often driving them to Walmart and Casey’s to purchase the favorite, most wanted toys and sugary snacks. In the end Bill won the most amazing race!
Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Angie (John) Scott, Debbie (Wally) Hodges, Lisa Dang, Kristie (Ken) Ashley; grandchildren, Jake Nicholson, Mitchell Nicholson, Asia Dang, Shae (Ricky) Thornton, Jessica (Garrett) Ostling, Conner Hodges, Storm Scott, Anna Dang, Corey Hodges, Christian Hodges and Skyeler Scott; great-grandchildren, Asher Thornton, Blayne Thornton and baby Hadley; siblings, Wayne Weeks, Shirley Mann, Sharon Ferguson; sisters-in-law, Leona Weeks and Janice Weeks; and brother-in-law, Monty Morris. He was preceded in death by and infant son; parents, Carl and Grace Weeks; brothers, Dick Weeks and Jim Weeks; and sister, Sheryll Morris.
