Joanne Rude
(September 7, 1932 - December 17, 2022)

Graveside services for Joanne Rude, 90, who passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, IA. Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, December 20 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola where family will be present to greet friends.
Joanne was born and raised in Des Moines and extremely proud to be an Iowan. As a teenager, into early adult years, most of her free time was spent with a group of very close friends traveling around Iowa as a competitive dancer. Even into her 80’s, she would demonstrate how to do a high kick to anyone that would ask. Joanne originally worked at Des Moines Savings and Loan and then transferred to Standard Oil where she met her boss, Gene, who would later become her husband of 59 years. Joanne will most be remembered by her family for her fun loving, positive attitude on life. The last five years became more challenging for her due to Alzheimer’s, but she never let it affect her positive outlook on life. Since the passing of her husband, Gene, in 2017, she truly enjoyed living with her daughter Becky and their pets. Her grandsons were her biggest pride and joy and she would not hesitate to make that very well-known with anyone who would listen. In 2021, Joanne became a great grandma to baby Jessie and that brought her so much happiness. Even during her decline, she never lost her sweet nature and was always grateful for anyone that would lend her a hand. Joanne’s family would like to express their deepest gratitude to everyone at St. Croix Hospice for everything they have done to help along this journey these last two months.
Joanne is survived by her daughter, Becky (Rick Taylor) Weiss; grandchildren, Scott (Erin) Weiss, Nick (Erin Fick) Weiss; great-grandchildren, Jessie Weiss; siblings, John (Pam) Wilson, Corvallis, OR; many nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents, Donald and Dorothy Wilson; siblings, Jean Woolman, Jackie Hartman, Jim Wilson. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
