Randy J. Sutherland
(August 29, 1959 - February 7, 2023)

Randy Joseph Sutherland went home to heaven on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023. Randy was welcomed into this world by Gust and Olive Sutherland on August 29th, 1959. He was raised alongside his brother Craig in a hardworking and loving family.
Randy attended Indianola high school from which he graduated in 1977. He was fond of his father’s work ethic and skill in the carpentry trade and quickly followed in his footsteps. Randy was a master carpenter who was well known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail to a fault. No job was done until the customer was 100% satisfied even if that meant starting a job over as he believed that doing anything right the first time was a necessity in life. Randy was well known in the Mopar muscle car circles. His knack for tracking down rare parts and his gift of gab helped him become a go to guy for people all over the country to help make their rare car 100%. He was also very generous in this field often selling rare parts for what he had in them just to ensure that a car would be complete for its owner. If a muscle car didn’t have four speed, he didn’t want it. Randy had a hard time passing up a good steakhouse or restaurant. If he found somewhere he liked he would become a frequent customer. Establishments like Wagon Wheel Café, Jesse’s Embers, Manhattan Deli, Maid Rite in Norwalk and many others. Piper’s in Chariton was where he would calm his sweet tooth and pick up candies for friends near and far. Family always came first, and Randy was quick to help whenever and wherever possible. Randy enjoyed watching his great nephew Luke grow up and he was honored to have a great niece named Olive who was named after his mother. After his father Gust passed away, Randy took it upon himself to step up and take care of his family. His parents would be proud of how he kept his family together.
Randy is survived by his brother Craig, niece Heidi, great nephew Luke and great niece Olive as well as many friends that he thought of as family.
Randy is currently outrunning the state patrol on the highway to heaven in a 1970 Challenger R/T. HEMI screaming, pistol grip power shifting and tires smoking.Thank you to Suncrest Hospice. A Memorial Gathering will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2023 at Overton Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Chariton Cemetery, Chariton, IA. Memorials may be made to the family in his name. [This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/]
