Samantha Jane Wierson
(December 21, 1978 - August 11, 2020)

As a young child Samantha would climb the tallest trees even though she was very much afraid of heights. Growing up she played softball, ran track, and learned to play the clarinet. As a teenager Samantha’s strong will and independence caused her to learn some lessons the hard way, which made her into the strong and resilient woman we love.
With Samantha’s first marriage she had 3 beautiful children, Connor, Tucker, and Zoie. Samantha met Jess Wierson and on September 23, 2011 they were married. To that marriage Jess brought two wonderful little boys, Isaac and Collin. Samantha had a brilliant mind and easily earned her degree in associates of applied science and paramedicine from Indian Hills. She worked for the Lucas County Hospital in Chariton and was also part-time on the Indianola fire department and volunteered for the Williamson fire department. She later worked for Freemont Farms as their quality control, workers compensation and employee safety manager. Samantha’s second job on the weekends was an EMT for Belle Plain and she also volunteered on the Malcom Fire department. After her time at the farm she went to work at Elite Elevations, with her brother Jeff, running the entire administrative side of the business, something she was very proud of. She volunteered for PALS dog shelter in Grinnell; there wasn’t a dog who didn’t fear her. Volunteering was in her blood, there wasn’t a cause she wouldn’t support.
Monday, August 10, 2020 a storm with straight line winds of nearly 100 miles per hour, hit Iowa. This storm brought down a tree, that tree fell upon a home. Within, a woman of outstanding courage, honesty, and strength. A firefighter, a paramedic, a tireless employee, an incredibly, incredibly intelligent woman! Most of all, a mother of five children. They were her proudest victories in life. Her husband was Samantha’s best friend and she, his. Samantha Jane Wierson’s injuries were overwhelming. On Tuesday, August 11, we were told that decisions would have to be made. Typical of Samantha Jane, she made the decision for us. She left us with an incredible example of a life to mirror. Her grit truly the stuff of legend!
Survivors include her husband, Jess Wierson; children, Connor Gillson, Tucker Wierson, Zoie Wierson, Isaac Wierson and Collin Wierson; mother, Kristy Lawr; mother and father-in-law David and Julie Wierson; siblings, Dan Bishop, Amy Lawr, Alicia Lawr, Nicole Carter and Jeff Lyon; siblings-in-law Amanda (Dana) Heaberlin, Crystal (Kirk) Kariker and several other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Kenneth Lawr and Naomi (Gilbert) Overlin.
Graveside services for Samantha Wierson, 41, who passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2020, in Des Moines, will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, August 15, 2020, at Sandyville Cemetery, Sandyville, IA
Public visitation will be held 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola, using CDC Guidelines.
