Donald “Donnie” Hunerdosse was born on August 20, 1952 in Indianola, Iowa. Donnie was the third child of seven born to Darl and Dorothy Hunerdosse. He graduated from Southeast Warren High School in 1970.
On December 2, 1972, he was united in marriage to high school sweetheart Sandra “Sandi” Graham at the Christian Union Church in Milo, Iowa. Donnie and Sandi lived in Liberty Center for a short time before moving to a farm south of Brown’s Chapel. One year later they moved to the Don Beving farm by Milo, where later they had the opportunity to purchase the land and made it their own where Donnie resided until death. In August of 1974 they were blessed with a son, Travis William. They were blessed yet again in December, 1976 with another son, Aaron Jay. Donnie and Sandi would have celebrated 48 wonderful years of marriage in December, 2020.
Donnie was a dedicated, hardworking farmer who started farming right out of high school on the Don Beving farm. In 1973, he started farming for Bob and Doris Fridley, which developed into a great farming partnership that lasted 46 years. He has a successful cattle operation and also raised hogs for a time. Over the years he added additional acres to his farming operation that included corn, soybeans, and hay. As an active contributor to the community, Donnie served on the Southeast Warren School Board, Warren County Angus Association, Warren County Fair Board, Warren County Corn Growers Association. He was a member of the Milo Lion’s Club and served as Director of the Warren County Fair and Beef Superintendent. He was recognized for his commitment and dedication to his community, livestock and the environment by receiving the Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award in 2015.
A highlight to Donnie’s life besides farming and his cattle was his family which he was very proud of. Each summer he enjoyed camping at the county and state fair and his sons showing cattle. He also enjoyed vacationing with his family and friends, going to the sons’ and grandsons’ sporting events when he could. There were many skiing and fishing trips with family and friends which were always very special to him. He dearly loved and nurtured all of the little ones in his life who refer to him lovingly as “Papa or Uncle Donnie”. Surviving are his wife Sandi and sons Travis (Ken Des Jardins) of Chicago, Illinois and Aaron (Kara) of Olathe, Kansas and their children Alec, Mason, and Jayden Redmon.
