Sally Ruth Bouslog Davey was born July 22, 1954 in Sigourney, Iowa. She was the fourth daughter of David and Ruth (McCombs) Bouslog of South English, IA and would have eight sisters and three brothers. Sally graduated from English Valley High School and went on to receive a Bachelors in Arts from Simpson College in Indianola, IA. While serving her community as a 9-1-1 Dispatcher, she met Firefighter Charles “Chuck” Davey and they later married and made their home there with their three children: Kari Leigh, Eric Lee and Curtis Lee. Upon retirement, they decided to move to Kimberling City, MO to escape the Iowa winters and to enable Sally to take advantage of the longer flower-growing season.
Besides her family, gardening and landscaping were two of Sally’s great passions. Growing up as part of a large family on the farm she learned the value of hard work. She inherited her Grandma Zola’s green thumb and was constantly experimenting with new plants or reconfiguring a flower bed. She often shared pictures of her flower beds and her frustration with armadillos digging everything up. When her mother Ruth passed away, Sally took her recipe box and compiled a cookbook full of family favorites. She also created a lovely memory book when her sister Paula passed. She loved hosting family gatherings, often during the National Hot Balloon Air Festival, and her home was always open to visitors. Sally was never one to sit around. Despite her health problems she seemed to have a project of some kind going on. If she was not able to be physically active, she was planning the next thing she wanted to try.
Sally is survived by her husband Chuck, daughter Kari (Matt) of Liberty, MO and sons Eric (Elizabeth) of Nixa, MO and Curtis of Des Moines, IA. She reluctantly leaves behind her beloved grandchildren James Lee, Emma Kay, Mahala Leigh and Emerson Katherine-Louise. She is also survived by her Sisters; Kathryn (Bill) Bouslog Durbin; Karyl (Steve) Thomas, Sherry (Dan) Strohman; Marci Bouslog; Melodie Bouslog. Brothers Kent (Chris) Bouslog; Kevin (Sue) Bouslog; Kelly Bouslog, Father-in-law Glenn Davey, Sister-in-law Diane (Marvin) Jones, Brother-in-law Larry (Jennifer) Davey, many nieces, nephews, aunts, and good friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents David and Ruth Bouslog, mother-in-law Carol Louise Davey, sisters Meri Bouslog, Pam Bouslog and Paula Thomas, and grandparents Jay and Zola Shifflett McCombs and Paul and Mary Moore Bouslog.
Memorials may be given in Sally’s name to First Christian Church in Kimberling City, MO. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
