Charles Duane Clark
(October 23, 1944 - December 19, 2020)

Charles “Duane” Clark was lifted into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ on December 19, 2020, he was 76 years old. He was born on October 23, 1944 at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola, Iowa to Raymond Dean and Helen Merle (Putz) Clark. His brother, Dwight “Shorty” Clark came along three years later. The family lived on a farm south of Osceola until they moved to a farm north of Indianola. Duane went to school in Osceola thru the 8th grade and entered Indianola High School as a freshman graduating in 1962. It was at Indianola High school where he met his lifelong sweetheart, Shirley J (Taylor) Clark, They were married 57 years and from this marriage had two children, Helen “Duana” (Clark) Laird of Urbandale, IA and Craig Dean Clark of Austin, MN.
Duane and Shirley lived most of their married life in and around Indianola. Duane was an Assistant Manager at a Mobile Training Center in Oklahoma City and they lived there for two years. Upon returning to Indianola, Duane began selling Harveststores and later sold metal commercial and farm building throughout central Iowa. Duane had many customers who became friends throughout his time selling. Duane retired in 1999 after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. He fought a long hard fight with the disease and never let a day go by without making sure he was being active and kept moving.
Duane and Shirley enjoyed going to auctions and went to many sales over the years. They enjoyed their time at the Brass Armadillo Antique Mall and the family of friends they made there. In 2019, the Parkinson’s began to take over his motor skills and he suffered numerous falls leading to him going into Rehab at the Village. He never gave up his enjoyment of visiting with others and taking a real interest in their life stories. There was always an interest in kidding around but overall he lived a life committed to working hard at the task before him. In the end his confinement and lack of seeing family and friends proved too difficult and claimed his life to one where he found rest on eagles wings aside our great Lord.
Duane would always ask, Shirley: “What are we going to do today? Or how can I help you?” Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Helen Clark, his Aunt Opal Staley Burnett. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; his brother, Dwight (Jacqueline) Clark, from Osceola, IA; daughter Duana (Michael) Laird, granddaughter Cora; and son Craig (Anita) Clark and, grandchildren Garrett, Peyton and Emma. And his nieces and nephew and cousins.
Shirley, Duana and Craig all wish to thank those who extended patience, kindness and care for Duane during this time of failing health and hardship throughout his long battle with Parkinson's.
Duane was a member of Warren Masonic Lodge #53, Zigzag Shrine and Knights Templar.
Private family services will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2020. Friends may join the family on Duane’s obituary page of Overton Funeral Home’s website beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will follow services in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
