Charles Benjamin Morris
(August 25, 1942 - January 6, 2021)

Funeral services for Charles “Charlie” Morris, 78, of Indianola, who passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, will be held 7 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2021, at Grace Church, 4200 E 25th St, Des Moines, IA 50317. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to service at the church. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Hopeville Cemetery, Hopeville, IA. Chuck was born in Osceola, IA, at Clarke County Hospital, on August 25, 1942. Chuck spent his time with family, gardening, fishing, pheasant hunting, mushroom hunting, playing pool, serving at church, roller skating, cracking walnuts, traveling, playing slow pitch softball, and many countless activities. He spent many years working at Armstrong Tire and retired from Gilcrest Jewett making countless friends along the way. Some ways Chuck contributed to his community were volunteering on the Indianola Fire Department for 9 years and being a Boyscout scoutmaster. He also served in his church (Grace Church) as a Deacon, usher, bus captain, and Sunday School Teacher.
Chuck had a heart of gold but more importantly he had a heart full of Jesus. Chuck accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior in 1967. “Will the Circle Be Unbroken" was the sermon being preached when Chuck decided to surrender his life to the Lord. To go along with that sermon, the song “Will the Circle Be Unbroken" was very instrumental in Chuck accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior. The song is on the back of the folder for all to enjoy and read what helped changed Chuck’s life. Since that day in all of his enjoyed activities, he has been a shining light for the Lord. Chuck would hope that you too would not break that circle.
Family meant the world to Chuck. That was evidenced by him attending EVERY activity that his kids and grandkids participated in; weddings, birthday parties, sporting events, band concerts, choir concerts, graduations, and all of life’s most important moments. Even those who weren’t “family” felt loved by Chuck, he knew no stranger. He met many friends playing pool at the Indianola Parks and Rec Center and enjoyed making memories there. Roller skating was another hobby of Chuck’s. He was the floor supervisor for Skate and Games in Indianola. Chuck also enjoyed traveling with Connie and his family. Branson and Mackinaw Island were two of the most enjoyable places that Chuck traveled to.
Besides spending time with family, gardening was one of Papa’s most enjoyed hobbies. He was known as “Melon Morris." He grew musk melons that were bigger than basketballs, watermelons topping out at 88 pounds, tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, corn, and peppers. Not only did he plant vegetables, he planted beautiful flowers for his wife, Connie. He planted zinnias, peonies, irises, and violets. Chuck also cracked walnuts and pecans for everyone to enjoy. Mushroom hunting was another enjoyable family activity where he could “smell" them growing.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Connie; daughter, Becky (Mike) Taylor; daughter-in-law, Sue Morris; grandchildren, Zachary (Nancy) Morris, Amanda (Frank) Lowery, Allison (Cody) Smith, Hannah Morris; great-grandchildren, Micah Morris, Reagan Morris, Jordyn Morris, William Smith; siblings, Helen German, Deloris (Don) Reasoner; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Morris Jr.; parents, Chris and Dorothy Morris; siblings, Marvin Morris, Daryl Morris, Toni German, Gerry Putney.
Memorials may be directed to Grace Church in his name. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
