Darrell Dean Putney
(April 30, 1934 - April 6, 2021)

Funeral services for Darrell Dean Putney, 86, of Indianola, IA, who passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021 at the Indianola First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, IA.
Darrell was born April 30, 1934 to George and Lucile Putney. He grew up in White Oak Township where he attended Hoosier Row Country School until attending High School in Indianola. After graduating from High School, he went to work for Warren County Soil Conservation.
Darrell married Bette Ann Foust on November 26, 1954 and to this union three children were born. Shortly after he enlisted in the United States Army where the family was stationed Fort Polk. LA. He was Honorably discharged on March 14, 1957, and he remained in the reserves until January 22, 1963. Darrell and his family moved back to Iowa where he and Bette raised their three children until her passing.
After returning to Iowa, he went to work for Newman Construction as a carpenter, earning his journeyman’s and then went to work for Firestone Tire Company where he worked 30 years until his retirement. On January 5, 1985 Darrell married Juanita Louise Wirt and to this union three children were added to the family. He and Juanita traveled in their motorhome and spent lots of time at their cabin in Lake Rathbun.
Darrell was a member of the Indianola First Baptist Church, a member of the American Legion and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He loved all foods, especially fresh vegetables and watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow, Our God is Great.
Darrell is survived by his daughters, Bobette (Todd) Miller and Donya (Karl) Hayes; grandchildren, Wade (Kaylene) Rodgers, Weston (Brynn) Rodgers, Heather (Craig) Keul, Mark (Heidi Sutherland) Putney, Curt Putney, Nicole (Jared) Myers; step grandchildren, Cody (Allison) Miller and Austin (Chantel Wilkinson) Miller; eight and 3/4s great-grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; brother, Don (Carol) Putney; friend, Mary Streeter; sister-in-law, Shirley Foust; and many nieces and nephews; step-daughters, Jacqueline (Jim) Evans, Patsy (Richard) Scott and Meridee (Jeff) Welsh; nine step-grandchildren; many step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Bette Ann Foust and Juanita Louise Wirt; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jane Putney; parents, George and Lucile Putney; brother-in-law, Richard Foust.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 9 at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Warren County 4H Foundation in his name.
