Elaine Myrtle Brown
(August 24, 1929 - January 20, 2021)

Elaine Myrtle Brown was born August 24, 1929 to Jerome Harold and Alma Alvina (Hintz) Olson, in Albert Lea, MN. She passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in Ames, IA, at the age of 91 years.
Elaine was united in marriage on March 19, 1950 to Harold LaVerne Brown. To this union four children were born, Judy, Ronald, Norman and Marvin.
Elaine was a graduate of Jones Commercial High School in Chicago, IL, with certification in accounting and abstracting. She worked as an abstractor for Adel Title and Warren County Title, was clerk for City of Adel, IA, and an active partner in Brown Construction Company in Adel. She worked for Brown Tile and Terracing in Indianola, Y Knott Farm, and was a Bluebird and Campfire leader and Boy Scout Den Mother.
Priorities and loves for Elaine were her family, sewing, playing games and baking her famous apple, butterscotch and peach pies for her family. Her family prized her BBQ Ribs and Beef Jerky. She loved to hold yearly weeklong reunions for her family which included camping, skiing, games and campfires. Truth be known, everyone came for her pies, homemade ice cream, game playing and her smiles. Elaine was a 69 year member of a pitch card group, with many wild card nights. Elaine wintered for over 25 years in Big Bend, TX, where she hiked, climbed mountains and she met with her winter friends for summer getaways.
Due to the pandemic, she missed her monthly lunches with the Linden Iowa Ladies. Most of all, Elaine loved to dance with Harold, her husband of 70 years, at the Indianola, Carlisle and Woodburn dances and while attending music festivals all over the country. Harold and Elaine were known to many as “that couple who dances.”
Elaine was the summer mother of her nephews, Clifford and Glen Sieber and beloved aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was the glue that held her family together and drew her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews to her farm. The larger the party, the better. All were welcomed to her home and your favorite meal would be waiting for your arrival.
She is survived by her children, Judy Anthony, Ronald (Judy) Brown, Norman (Lila) Brown and Marvin (Sherri) Brown; grandchildren, Jamie (Melinda) Brown, Nathan Brown, Michael (Robyn) Brown, Eric Brown, Daniel Brown, Christina (Nil) Valls, Jonathan Brown, Nikki Brown; great-grandchildren, Taron Brown, Ashley (Jackson) Morris, Austin Brown, Mercedes Brown, Ethan Brown, Imagen Brown, James Brown, Eren Brown, Jett Valls, and Kira Valls. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Brown; parents, Jerome and Alma Olson; and siblings, Mona Smith, Doris Sieber and Jerry Olson.
Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Oncology department in her name: Mary Greeley Medical Center / William R. Bliss Foundation (1111 Duff Ave Ames, IA 50010). This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
