Jeffrey Dale Jenkins
(April 16, 1959 - July 14, 2021)

Funeral services for Jeffrey Dale Jenkins, 62, will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Indianola First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. in the Moon Cemetery, Macksburg, IA.
Jeffrey Dale Jenkins was born on April 16th, 1959, in Winterset, Iowa. He was raised on several Iowa farms by his father, Larry, and mother, Sally, along with his siblings Jacque, John and James.
As a boy, Jeff was an active Boy Scout (Troop #124) and participated in Y Indian Guides, 4H and FFA. He graduated from Indianola High School in 1977. In June of 1980, he married Lori and together they had two children, Jennifer and Jerimy. Jeff worked as a foreman for Downey Construction for many years. He was an extremely talented carpenter who would volunteer his skills to family and friends in his free time.
Jeff was known for his outstanding work ethic and loyalty. He worked hard and loved harder. He was always involved in his children’s many activities: he coached their sports, supervised plenty of go-kart builds and loved spending time outdoors taking them fishing and golfing. He was always willing to help in the community however he could. Even after his health declined, he could still be found tinkering at the First Baptist Church of Indianola, where he was a member, to help in any capacity he was able. He enjoyed cars; whether it was fixing them, racing them or demolishing them in the Warren County Demolition Derby. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed cheering them on (or yelling) with his son. His biggest love, though, was being Papa J to his four granddaughters.
Jeff passed away peacefully in his sleep at the home he resided in with his mother on July 14th, 2021, due to heart complications, which he had fought all his life, as well as kidney failure. It brings comfort to his family and friends that he is no longer suffering but his presence will be missed greatly. For a man who was born with a weakened heart; the strength of his love was felt by all.
He is survived by his former wife Lori (Schlotterback) Merrill and their children, Jennifer (Michael) Hayes, Jerimy (Melissa) Jenkins; granddaughters, Mackenzie, Madalyn, & Mailey Hayes and Jemma Jenkins; mother, Sally (Pinckney) Jenkins; siblings Jacqueline Glascock, John Jenkins, and James (Shelly) Jenkins; and 4 nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Keith Jenkins.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2021, at the Indianola First Baptist Church with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
