Family requests those in attendance to please wear a mask. Ron affectionately known as “Ronnie” by his family passed away August 23rd, 2021 of a hemorrhagic stroke. Ron was born at home on September 30th, 1953 to Ness and Nick Meyers. Ron and his family moved around a lot over the years before finally settling on the East side of Des Moines. Ron loved animals from a very young age from raising chickens in his parents basement to later row cropping and hog farming in the 80’s, raising sheep in the 90’s, cattle in the early 2000’s and finally meat goats with his daughter Katie. In 1996 Ron’s dream of owning a farm came true when he and his family moved to Milo, IA. It was not a large farm, but it was enough to keep him busy over the years. Ron met the love of his life Sandy on a blind date during the summer of 1974 and they were married on April 26th, 1975. Ron started working at the young age of 12 mowing yards and never stopped working. If there is one thing his kids will remember most about him was his work ethic. Ron would work nights at Pella Windows and farm during the day, but no matter what he was always there for all his kid’s special moments and events. When Ron would take the rare moment for himself, he enjoyed tinkering in his woodshop and always working to improve something around the farm. He enjoyed watching the Packers play, and spending time in the basement with his grandsons playing with his trains and toy tractors. During the winter months before kidding season would start you could find him in his office quietly putting a puzzle together, drawing up new livestock pen designs, or making lists of what needed to be done in the coming months on the farm. In 2013 Ron was blessed with his first grandson Aaron and would go on to be blessed with 5 more grandkids. The grandkids were his pride and joy in addition to his own children. He loved to wrestle with the kids. Their favorite line to ask him was “take your glasses off Grandpa” because they knew Grandpa could wrestle then. They will miss Grandpa’s butterfly kisses and his family will miss hearing the kids scream with laughter as he gave them the kisses.
Ron is survived by his wife Sandy; children, Nathan (Marla) Meyers and Katie (Joe) Johnson; grandchildren, Aaron, Eva, Audrey and Vivian Meyers and Wyatt and Addison Johnson; siblings, Nicky (Vicky) Meyers, Susie (Randy) Diers, Debbie (Byron) Orton, Cindy Adams, and Kevin (Kristi) Meyers; and his mother-in-law, Colleen Blackford. He was preceded in death by his three infant children and his parents Nicholas and Ness Meyers. Memorials may be given to the EveryStep Hospice Bright Kavanagh House or the Milo Fire Department. This memorial is provided by Overton Funeral Home, 501 West Ashland Ave., Indianola, Iowa, http://www.overtonfuneral.com/
